The Search Widget is not available in the current release. This page describes planned functionality.

The Search Widget is a Shopify theme extension that replaces or extends your store's native search. It queries both your existing Shopify catalog and Ingram's full catalog simultaneously — so customers can find any in-print title even if it hasn't been imported into your store yet.

How it works

  1. A customer searches for a book on your storefront.
  2. The widget shows results from your Shopify catalog alongside results from Ingram's catalog.
  3. If a customer clicks an Ingram result that isn't yet in your store, the app creates a product in Shopify in real time and redirects the customer to the new product page.
  4. The customer can add the book to their cart and check out immediately.

This means every in-print book in Ingram's catalog is effectively available from your store, even titles you haven't manually imported.

Just-in-time product creation

Products created through search are fully populated — the same metadata as a manual import. They are created in your catalog and linked to Ingram fulfillment automatically.

Note

Just-in-time products count toward your Shopify product limit (50,000 products per store). If your store is large, discuss a catalog management strategy with the Emersoft team.

Bot protection

The Search Widget includes bot protection to prevent automated systems from triggering mass product creation. This protects your store from unintended catalog inflation and Shopify API rate limits.

Why this matters

A customer searching for a book on your site and not finding it is a lost sale — they will buy from Amazon or another store. The Search Widget means the answer is always "yes, we have it" for any in-print title.
