Searching the Catalog

Emersoft Books gives you access to Ingram's premium data slice — a catalog of over 14 million titles. This includes the full range of in-print books as well as over 30,000 sideline items such as mugs, maps, puzzles, and board games. It is the most complete view of what Ingram has available.

Opening the catalog

  1. In Shopify Admin, go to Apps > Emersoft Books.
  2. You land on the catalog search page by default.

Searching

There are five search fields at the top of the page. You can use any one of them on its own, or combine several together:

Field What it searches
Keywords Searches across all text fields — title, author, description, and more
Title Searches by book title only
Author Searches by author name
Publisher Searches by publisher or imprint name
ISBN Searches by ISBN-13 (13 digits, no hyphens)

For example, you could enter an author name and a BISAC subject filter together to find only that author's books in a specific genre.

Searching for a specific title while a customer is waiting

Type the ISBN (13 digits, no hyphens) into the ISBN field for the fastest result — it returns an exact match immediately.

You must click Search after entering or changing any search term or filter. Results do not update automatically.

Results are displayed 25 per page.

Filters

Use the filters to narrow your results. Filters work alongside your search fields — combine them freely, then click Search.

Filter Options
BISAC Subject Standard book industry subject categories (e.g. Fiction / Mystery & Detective, Juvenile Fiction / Animals). Used for store organisation — BISAC subjects become Shopify product tags on import, with a level prefix to show where each subject sits in the hierarchy (e.g. 1:Fiction, 2:Romance, 3:Romantic Comedy).
Top Bestsellers Show only titles ranked in the top 1%, top 5%, top 10%, or top 25% of bestsellers
Binding Type Hardcover, Paperback, Trade Paperback, Mass Market Paperback, E-book, Audiobook
Language Filter by language (English, Spanish, French, and more)

Frontlist view

Above the results, you can switch between two views:

  • All — shows every title matching your search and filters (default)
  • Frontlist — shows only upcoming titles with a future publication date

Use the Frontlist view when you want to browse and import pre-orders — titles your customers can buy now, ready to ship as soon as they are published.

Importing books

You have two ways to import books from the search page:

Import a single book

Click Add to store next to any title in the results list. You can also open the Book Details overlay first and import from there.

Import multiple books at once

Tick the checkbox next to each title you want to import. A panel appears at the bottom of the screen showing your selected titles. When you are ready, click Import selected to add them all to your store in one step.

See Import a Single Book for details on what gets created in your Shopify store and how to make books visible on your storefront after import.
